
Art Event|Art Patrons: Public lecture
On the evening of April 25, Joe Space held a public lecture on “Collecting with Gregor Muir, David Zwirner, Gagosian and Hauser&Wirth” in Shanghai, with a live screening of “Art Patrons”. Themed lectures. The lectures were given by Gregor Muir, Head of International Collections at Tate Modern, David Zwirner, Gallery Director of Zwirner Gallery, Nick Simunovic, Managing Director of Gagosian Gallery, and Dr. Neil Wenman, Senior Director of Hauser & Wirth Gallery. After the screening, Mr. Qiao Zhibing, collector and founder of Qiao Space and Shanghai Oil Can Art Center, and Ms. Shen Qilan, PhD in philosophy and art critic at the University of Münster, Germany, were on hand to talk and share with the audience.
The content of the public lecture was derived from the lecture and discussion on the theme of “Art Patrons”.
“Art Patrons” is a large-scale exhibition jointly organized by Joe Space and Shanghai Oil Can Art Center, which will run from March 24 to October 21. The exhibition presents over 50 works from the new collections of 36 contemporary Chinese collectors in China. Regarding the face of the collection composed of different collectors and collections, Qiao Zhibing said, “Although each collector basically shows only one newly collected work, and it does not represent the full picture of his collection, but still see the focus of each collector, presenting works are also very rich.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Qiao Space held the aforementioned “Art Patrons” lecture and discussion on March 23, inviting the heads of major international art institutions to discuss how to collect and the organic connections that occur with art institutions in the context of the growing influence of Chinese contemporary collectors.
