Martin Creed:Understanding
Qiao Space and Hauser & Wirth are pleased to announce that Turner Prize-winning British artist Martin Creed will present his first exhibition in China from November 9th to February 28th, 2017.
Martin Creed is a leading artist of his generation. The exhibition titled “Understanding” will introduce this artist to Chinese audiences through his distinctive neon lights, installations, videos, paintings and on-site Works such as wall paintings allow the viewer to understand his creative ideas as fully as possible. The exhibition at Joe Space highlights Martin Creed’s lighthearted banter and innovative use of material, as well as his ever-present fascination with the mundane.
Martin Creed’s identity as a music and composer is inseparable from his identity as a visual artist. Often intentionally, he works both musically and artistically, using the freedom he derives from music to express his process of generating and extending ideas in installations and paintings. The exhibition at Qiao Space features two video works: Border Control (2015) and Let Them In (2015). It can be said that these two works are the continuation of Martin Creed’s exploration of the process of movement, repetition and creation of the human body.
The Chinese translation of the exhibition title “Understanding” has several meanings such as understanding, understanding, tacit agreement, and understanding. After seeing this exhibition, I believe you will have your own understanding.
